But the name is all that remains - the kid I knew and the character Pajamaman are completely another. As for the additional characters, I think they are probably each a different facet of my own identity.
Gownley: I was working on dissimilar book, Shades of Gray, and started preoccupied about other characters or ideas. I liked the idea of a little girl character, so I flipped over the Shades of Gray sheet I was going on and drew the figure who is now Amelia.
Suite 101 interviewed Gownley via email on May 19, 2009 and studied more about Amelia and Gownleys observations on kids comic books. The emulating is an edited edition of the interview.
When people talk about the comic book industry, what they average is superhero comic books sold to comic book stores. I worked very hard to convince comic shops that kids' comics could be an momentous part of their monthly revenue, and foster a new spectators that could sustain them for decades. They really didn't care. They ambition to sell superhero comics to existing superhero fans. That's nice.
If that industry collapsed entirely,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I'm no sure what effect it would have on kids' comics. Probably virtually naught. Amelia is published by Simon and Schuster. Raina Telgemeier's new book Smile ambition be promulgated along Scholastic. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is from Abrams. None of these publishers rely on comic shop as their chief source of bargains.
I cornered to my girlfriend, who is immediately my wife, and queried what she thought of the character. Then I said, "What should we call her?" and we either said at the same time "Amelia." I thought that was a nice sign.
Michael and I have been friends for years (he was also the editor for all the Amelia Rules! comic books from Renaissance Press) and he all bugged me about turning Amelia into a musical. Finally I told him to go ahead and attempt it - I didn't consider it could be done - and I was thumped away with what he did.
Since 2001, comic and children’s book fans have loved Jimmy Gownley’s Amelia Rules,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! sequence. The humorous,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], about fourth grader Amelia Louise McBride and her sassy take on small town life, has been called A Peanuts for the 21st century by Comics Buyers Guide, when Amelia has been called a character to antagonist Ramona by School Library Journal.
Suite 101: How did you get the idea for Amelia Rules!?

Suite 101: Do you believe the comic paperback industry is dying for some say because of the path comics are marketed?
Gownley: Is anybody mentioning namely? I don't understand anybody who's saying that. Or, perhaps more accurately, everyone is always saying that. I educated to stop catching it seriously around 1998.
Gownley: Thanks! I love the dulcet. No, I cannot take credit for anybody of the anthems. Michael Cohen, an artist and playwright in New England, composed the melody as it and is responsible for production it always occur.
Suite 101: I enjoyed the Amelia Rules! musical stage activity. Did you jot the songs?
Gownley: Not really they are definitely each solitary entities. I did know a children who, inexplicably, chose to dress the largest baseball uniform while we were kids even though he was the smallest athlete ashore the team. It saw favor he was wearing his pajamas at every game, so we began to call him "Pajamaman."
Suite 101: Are any of the kids in Amelia Rules! Amelia, Reggie, or Pajamaman based on real folk?
