While all of these new and old enemies surface [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mike must come to terms with the fact that his mother Madeline (Sharon Gless) had figured out what he's been doing for a living all these years, yet not knowing how to feel about it, given his impulse to help the needy.
After having finally dealt with his shifty handler Carla (Tricia Helfer) at the end of Season Two, Michael now found himself face to face with the big man, AKA Management. "The Old Man" had offered Mike a new position with the Agency, and threatening a complete disconnection from him should he refuse, alleging that the only reason his friends and family were still alive was due to protection provided by him. Having little faith in the Old Man's word, Mike jumps out of the helicopter and swims back to the Miami shores. Five miles away.
Poor Gabrielle Anwar gets less and less screen time to herself on the show, and season three is no different. There's a glimmer of hope when we discover some of her IRA-peppered past in the episode "Long Way Back" (where we also meet her long lost brother), but by the following episode she's just back to the gun toting maniac she's always been.
This is by far the best season yet, with deadlier and deadlier opponents, and increasingly clever plots to foil each week's baddie. The good stuff, however, ties back into the show's overall mythology, that of Mike's status and the people behind the scenes who want him snuggly stuck in Miami [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for reasons unknown.
Upon his return to friends Sam and Fi, the trio set off to find out who is behind the frame implicating Mike, resulting in his blacklisting. While doing so, they of course help out more people, but must contend with a number of new threats.

Among them is the vindictive Tyler Brennan (Jay Karnes, last seen in Season Two) who is back with a plan to blackmail Mike into doing his dirty work; an overzealous detective (Moon Bloodgood) who is hellbent on finding out the real story behind Mike and his friends; Larry Sizemore (Tim Matheson), Mike's former mentor; a shady businessman named Tom Strickler (Ben Shenkman), who is so well connected he may actually be able to clear Mike's name with the Agency, if he himself wasn't looking to use Mike as his criminal errand boy; finally, a dangerous yet suave psychopathic mastermind named Mason Gilroy (Chris Vance) whose plan to free a dangerous criminal may reveal some answers as to Mike's burn notice.

In this series by show creator Matt Nix, a burned agent is forced to remain in the greater Miami area, until he is either cleared or he can find out who forced him out of the covert operations business and why.
this helps those who need Mike's assistance with their problems, but it also makes Mike and his immediate circle an easy target, especially for enemies from his past looking for some payback. Add to this the fact that brother Nate and mom Madeline are ill equipped to deal with this, and you've got yourself a worthwhile season of well written episodes.
After having helped so many defenceless Miami sorts whilst utilizing his skills and experience, Mike and his cohorts Sam and Fiona are ever so closer to finding out who wrongly tipped Management (John Mahoney, Frasier) as to Mike's alleged illegal activities.
