Post subject: GHD IV New Style straighteners Who Were 'The Runaw
The Runaways' Early Days: 1975
The Runaways released their second album, Queens of Noise, in 1977 and then embarked on their second U.S. tour. That summer, the band toured Japan to capitalize on their success in the country. They played a series of sold-out shows to fanatical audiences and released a live album (Live in Japan) which became one of the top-selling imports of the 1970s. Jackie Fox quit the band during the Japanese tour and Joan Jett assumed bass duties in her absence.

In late 1975, Cherie Currie auditioned for a spot as the band's lead singer. Not having a song prepared for her to sing, Fowley and Jett wrote one on the spot. Currie got the job and the impromptu song, "Cherry Bomb

The Runaways signed with Mercury Records in 1976 and released their self-titled debut album before embarking on a successful U.S. and European tour. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Cheap Trick were among the acts who opened for them. "Cherry Bomb" was featured on the debut

In 1975, 15 year old guitarist Joan Jett was eager to start an all-girl band. Producer Kim Fowley gave Jett's phone number to Sandy West, a young drummer who had approached him with the idea of forming an all-female band. Jett and West met to work out ideas and soon, with the addition of Micki Steele on bass and Lita Ford on lead guitar, The Runaways were performing on LA's club scene with Kim Fowley serving as their manager.

Bassist Micki Steele left the band shortly after Currie's audition and would later resurface in the 1980s as the bassist for the popular all-girl group The Bangles. By the end of the year, Jackie Fox had assumed bass duties for The Runaways and the band's lineup was, for the moment, complete.
All-female bands are a rarity on the rock scene, but The Runaways were something even more rare: an all-female punk/glam band influenced by glitter rock artists such as David Bowie and T. Rex. Although their career was relatively short-lived

, The Runaways spawned two of the most successful female artists of the 1980s (Joan Jett and Lita Ford) and paved the way for other all-female groups in the music industry. A feature film on the band (for which Joan Jett served as a producer) will be released to theaters in 2010.
