Post subject: jordan 9 When Rock Goes Country

The Beatles
Best known for their pyschedelic rock and extended on-stage jams, "The Dead" also displayed distinctive country leanings on two of their most critically-acclaimed albums; Workingman's Dead and its follow-up, American Beauty, both from 1970.
Rock 'n' roll was not the only American music that influenced The Beatles. Not only did Ringo sing Buck Owens' Act Naturally on the Help! album (he also did a version as a duet with Buck in 1989) but other songs by Liverpool's most famous group also carry that special "country" feel.
The title for Workingman's Dead was inspired by the Merle Haggard song, Workingman's Blues, which the band had started playing in concert, and by the close harmony singing of Crosby, Stills and Nash. "Hearing those guys sing and how nice they sounded together, we thought: 'We can try that. Let's work on it a little'," said Jerry Garcia at the time.

, and is arguably even better than its predecesor. As on Workingman's Dead, Jerry Garcia's steel gu
The Rolling Stones famously "went country" for an entire album in 1971 - the brilliant Sticky Fingers - which probably had something to do with the close friendship between Keith Richards and country rock pioneer, Gram Parsons. The Stones even allowed Parsons' band, The Flying Burrito Brothers to cut a version of the classic country-esque Wild Horses, provided they didn't release it as a single, on their second record, Burrito Deluxe.
"I was listening and reviewing the new Beatles remastered CDs last year, amazed at the clarity," writes the blogger, Bungalow Bill, in his January 2010 article entitled "Do The Beatles Deserve a Place in the Country Music Hall of Fame?" "As I progressed through from Please Please Me to Beatles For Sale and part of Help!, I heard the twang of George Harrison’s guitar. It dawned on me just how influenced the Beatles were in American music beyond just Elvis Presley. There was a hint of country and western that really comes out in the more rockabilly Beatles For Sale."

"Of course Paul had some fun with Rocky Raccoon," he adds, "while John Lennon said Crippled inside had a country and western sound." Paul McCartney became the first member of The Beatles to have a song appear in the country charts

, when his band, Wings had a minor hit with Sally G in 1974.
The "Greatest Rock 'n' Roll band in the World" had experimented with the genre before, perhaps most notably on Country Honk, an alternative, "countrified" version of Honky Tonk Women that appeared on 1969's Let it Bleed. "I was listening to country music and blues even before I could play guitar," says Keith Richards in a video posted on You Tube.
A lot of people, especially those living outside of America's southern states, continue to hold an extremely dim view of country music, believing it to be music for "hicks" and "rednecks," with songs that "all sound the same." What they fail to grasp, is that many of their favourite bands have embraced country music at certain points in their careers and have produced some of their best work as a result.
