Bartleby responses maximum requests by repeating that he would prefer not to, soon demonstrating that he has not favorites, only an unswerving dedication to inaction. <br />He constantly stares at walls, either when hired by the narrator and behind being taken to prison for refusing to leave the narrators office. <br />Narratorial Blankness <br />It is possible he sees someone in walls that the repose of us do not.
