The piece closely examines a property, inside and out, including one inhabitant that is resting while <br />a small boat awaits elucidation (lines 1-15) <br />As in a glass dress <br />Irony is embedded in the imagery with a flawlessness that invites the reader to be alone with the speaker, with the poet, with the characters, with the items, and with the whole world. “Animals are leaving” while “Light sensors respond / to the footfall of every guest” and the reader is left to wonder who is calling in the perceived darkness. The poem refuses to latch onto the simplicity of coming and going, so it moves and presents images of “water”, “fishes”, “a glass dress”, and a “reef of trees” while staying grounded in its own language. <br />Safety Net <br />Ironic Invite <br />The uneasiness of the poem&rsquo;s voyage turns turtle while simultaneously staying put in a setting that evokes a startling cultural clarity. Information in the modern world never stops bombarding people: television, media, internet, etc. People seek solace from the onslaught of information and solace from society at large, so they build fences around houses with security systems and they lie in bed “Stiller than water” feeling safe. <br />the bay itself barely breathing <br />Beyond the reef of trees a beach cannot be seen <br />to the footfall of every guest <br />“Privacy” is difficult to maintain. The poem reaches out to everyone who has had a moment of lucidity cast in a shroud of sanctimonious safety. No matter how one tries to allay anxiety it will still be “within the radius” of one&rsquo;s own psyche. Feeling safe is a mindset that most everyone strives for because peace of mind is often achieved only when one is totally comfortable.
