Superstars teaming-up is nothing new to the NBA
It all started in 2007 when the Boston Celtics traded for sharpshooter Ray Allen and 2004 league MVP Kevin Garnett Jersey. When the duo teamed up with captain Paul Pierce, the original "Big Three" was born.
This marked the beginning of what many analysts consider the trend of superstars in the NBA moving from small markets to metropolises, leaving their former teams in a state of disaster for years to come. LeBron abandoned Cleveland, Chris Bosh abandoned Toronto, Amar'e abandoned Phoenix and Carlos Bozer abandoned Utah.
But are such power moves fundamentally selfish and detrimental to the NBA as a whole?
If they are, then the NBA is in trouble. Moves like this have been happening since the NBA was created and are still happening around the league. Superstars have always been and are continuing to stay together in a variety of ways.Kevin Garnett Jersey
The most notable superstar duos of the last ten years include Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles in Utah and Tim Duncan and David Robinson in San Antonio. Some might argue in this case that the two players eventually became superstars while growing with each other, whereas currently, superstars are developing in small markets, but ending up thriving in the metropolises.
At least it seems like that's happening everywhere except for Oklahoma City.
The Thunder, led by superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, advanced to the playoffs last year and look to be perennial championship contenders for the next few seasons. They have surrounded Durant and Westbrook with young role players such as Kendrick Perkins, Thabo Sefolosha and Serge Ibaka. This is a team that Oklahoma City has developed on Kevin Garnett Jerseyits own.
But more importantly, Oklahoma City, utilizing the tremendous cap space it has had at its disposal, has worked on signing some of these key components to multi-year extensions.
The first player to be re-signed was Durant, who added five years to his current contract. Back-up center Nick Collison was extended for four years, as was Perkins, who was just acquired at the trade deadline from Boston.
And the Thunder expect to have enough cap space to extend Westbrook's contract this summer.
So for all those worrying about the future of the league due to the actions of LeBron and Carmelo,Kevin Garnett Jersey they may not have been paying close attention. There are many in the league that will pass up the opportunity to play in a big three for the chance at a homegrown championship.
