Winner of the 2002 Best Animated Feature Film Academy Award, Spirited Away may be Miyazaki’s most famous and prolific film. Centred around ten-year-old Chihiro, the film explores the adventures of the girl when suddenly, in the midst of her reluctant move to a new town with her parents AirMax 2011, finds herself in an alternate world of spirits and monsters all controlled by the witch, Yubaba.
Whilst in this world, Chihiro is given a new name, Sen, by Yubaba and put to work in a bathhouse used by spirits. Her friend, Haku, who takes the form of a dragon, is also indebted to Yubaba and ends up sustaining several serious injuries after being attacked by a flock of paper birds following his stealing of a magical sigil from Yubaba. Porco Rosso is Hayao Miyazaki’s sixth film and was produced and released by Studio Ghibli in 1992. Porco Rosso tells the story of an Italian World War I fighter pilot called Marco Pagot, who due to a curse which has given him the face of a pig, is now called Porco Rosso. He now works as a bounty hunter, looking for and bringing to justice air pirates over the Adriatic Sea.

Although many of Hayao Miyazaki’s films have become increasingly popular in recent years due to DVD releases, critical acclaim and awards, there remain some that are a lot more popular than others. These include:
Beginning his career in animation in 1963 at Toei Animation, Miyazaki soon earned recognition for his contribution to such works as Gulliver’s Travels Beyond the Moon and the1969 animated production of Puss in Boots. After moving from Toei to A Pro, Miyazaki co-directed several episodes from the prolific animated series Lupin III before directing his very first feature anime film, The Castle of Cagliostro, a Lupin III film. Miyazaki is also the co-founder of the famous Studio Ghibli along with Isao Takahata.
Born in 1941 in a small town in Tokyo, Hayao Miyazaki has, in his 68 years of life, created some of the most beautiful and magical animated films to grace the big screen. With renowned anime creations such as Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle Miyazaki has become a name recognised the world over and his popularity is showing no signs of decreasing as he continues write and direct new and ever more exciting films.
Porco Rosso is one of the only Miyazaki films that references accurate historical and geographical settings. It is an endearing, captivating film that can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages.

The films tells the story of Porco’s friendship with Fio, a young and talented aircraft mechanic, his relationship with Gina jordan 7 retro, his would-be romantic interest who runs a sea pilots’ hotel and club and his rivalry with an American pilot named Curtis.
