Understanding Medical Transcription
By: rebecca nolan
Medical transcription involves transcribing the notes of your doctor/physician and converting them into electronic files for future reference. The medical system in the United States is completely based on insurance and hence scrutiny of the files is necessary to process it. Hence in such situation MT finds its importance.
Qualifications Required
The fine job of Medical transcription requires atleast an accuracy of 98 percent. The job may sound simple but it requires a sound knowledge of the language of medicine. A through knowledge of bodily functions is also required. Good language skills,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sound grammar and spelling, ability to use the right medical term when required etc are some of the qualities required for this job. Some countries offer 18 to 20 months of training programs in this but basically a qualified degree is not necessary for this. A few years back,Child Discipline Should Provide Solutions, there was this big MT boom in India when everybody tried doing this but an important factor they forgot was that experience in this field is vital. Only a few survived and those who did are reaping benefits today.
The process of transcription
Understanding Medical transcription is easy. First the medical records spoken by the doctor are recorded into a tape or a digital recorder. They are then transcribed into a word document by a medical transcriptionist or medical language specialist. It could be notes of treatments, clinic notes or any other writing related to the patient’s treatment and history. Now there are enough and more software to identify and decode the difficult terms used in transcribing.
The career prospects of transcription
Medical transcription as a career is fast emerging as it has high flexibility. It could be done as a home based work in a single unit or could develop large multi companies churning out huge volumes of work. More and more coaching facilities are given for the understanding of the new concepts evolving everyday. On an average, a fresher medical transcriptionist gets around Rs.5000 per month. The amount varies from company to company.
