Louis Zukofsky's Sincere Perception of Language
Louis Zukofsky and the Objectified Poem
Self-reference as an Enactment of Consciousness
In this regard, sincere perception is an effort to addition awareness and expand subjective consciousness into unexamined realities of human existence. At the core of this expansiveness is the dynamic interplay between objects of experience and wisdom - a phenomenon of relation and abstract generation in a macrocosm of external objects.
Rather than working toward a straightforward, rhetorical end, Zukofskys verse triggers one expansion of thought in which the reader namely implicated through the objectified [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dynamic attributes of the poem. Instead of zeroing in above a restricted averaging, [i]“A”-9 expands into an enactment of the experience from which meaning, and the poem itself, derives, i.e. human thought and perception in relation with the world.
Two conceptual objects that work by the center of A-9 are Marxs Capital and Spinoza’s Ethics. Applying abstract language to abstract realities has a specific purpose: to be consciously conscious of unconscious forces in the human psyche, i.e. to sincerely discern collective reality as well as individual reality in narration to the collective.
Zukofsky examines abstraction by means of abstraction, returning it to a concrete sense of human application and conscious experience. This opposes the naturalized reality of ideological limitation, alternatively abstract worth systems to which we un-self-unconsciously adhere. Self-reference, applied here as a poetic device, recreates the conscious subjective experience of abstraction within the body of the poem. In a sense, this self-referentiality makes the poem self-conscious - enacting in words what the poet encounters in thought.
Louis Zukofskys poetry begins in the contemplation of a serious problematic: ideological bias and the inevitable limitations that are subsequently levied on perception, thought, and relations. His reply to this problem (the cornerstone of his poetics) is sincere perception, i.e. the petition of thought unconstrained at preconceived biases and limitations.
Complicating its outward orientation,“A”-9 is also pointedly self-referential. In each of its two codas, it refers apt the process of its own construction. Further, sincere prescience is also reflected in the poems subject material: human abstraction [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], both for hinderance (in its unconscious state) and as fruitful tool (in its aware application).
This occurs via a subjective experience with the poem, mirrored by a self-reflective poetic structure that feeds behind on the experience of its reader. Thinking approximately the poem is similar to looking at the reflection of disapproved mirrors. The primary feud, although, is that “A”-9 engages outer realities which only heighten the mirror efficacy by building a 3 path dynamic between subject [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] poem, and an distending awareness into external realities.
Engaging this problematic, and enacting his solution, the resulting poetry develops toward an objectified state from which human dynamics emerge in a readers experience of the poem. Rather than pointing inward to its own hermeneutic meanings, the objectified poem directs its readers consideration outward, into the globe of human phenomena from which the poem derives a semantics of experience, another from rhetorical definition. From this process, a broader dynamic emerges 1 which is centred on human experience in a earth of external objects.
