Sandburg cross-country star Lukas Verzbicas on Thursday orally committed to the University of Oregon.
He made the decision public at a District 230 school board meeting honoring him at Stagg High School. Signing day is Feb. 2.
"I like the atmosphere there and all the history of the university," said Verzbicas, who also considered Colorado and Stanford.
Verzbicas, a junior who will graduate after this school year, is eyeing political science as a major.

He won the Class 3A state cross-country title two years in a row. This season he won national titles at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships and Nike Cross Nationals.
On Wednesday he was honored as the Gatorade National Cross-Country Runner of the Year for the second consecutive season.
